Advanced Training

Refresh Your EMDR Skills
Note. All information related to this Advanced Training is located on this page.

After working for a period of time, EMDR therapists tend to drift from the basic protocol which impacts their effectiveness.  This one day course will renew and enhance your skills while also providing you with expert case consultation. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the recent EMDR research and protocol variations from the last five years.

Prerequisites:

Participants must have completed an EMDRIA Approved Basic Training in EMDR (both Part 1 and Part 2).

Note: Six EMDRIA credits awarded. Participants may claim this training as part of their professional mandatory continuing education requirements.

Learning Objectives:

  • to review the eight phase EMDR protocol to ensure effective outcomes.
  • to be familiar with variations on the basic protocol in the last five years.
  • to expand your use of cognitive interweaves when looping & blocks occur.
  • to support your learning in a practicum component.
  • to receive expert consultation on current cases.

Course Description:

Review of 8-phase Protocol
After working for a period of time, all EMDR therapists require protocol review and case consultation to remain effective. During this one-day workshop, participants will revisit the Basic Protocol and exchange case consultations. Marshall will present the protocol variations that have arisen in the last five years (e.g., early trauma; addictions; phobia, resource development, etc.). Marshall will provide case demonstrations using material from the therapists. There will be time to discuss difficult case problems such as under-responders and over-responders; what to do when the client dissociates; and when the client is a small child. Included will be a short overview of the latest research on trauma interventions, pharmacology and special populations.

Cognitive Interweaves
Cognitive interweaves can be one of the most challenging parts of the EMDR protocol. In this training you will review what to consider when forming a cognitive interweave to keep the processing moving. Is your client stuck on who aught to take responsibility, issues of safety, or choice? Learn effective short statements to help clients flow in processing.

Consultation
You will receive expert consultation on using EMDR with current cases to help address blocks, loops, or other difficulties you may be having with clients.
